John Stewart, Ph.D. - Clinical Director - Psychologist

Dr. Stewart is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with 25 years of experience specializing in work with children, adolescents, families and couples. His orientation is largely eclectic and informed by a neuropsychological perspective delivered with attunement to the principles of Self Psychology, attachment theory and cognitive behavioral Individual and couples orientations. He is Clinical Director of both the Hastings Clinical Associates and the Maine Collaborative Child and Adolescent Day Treatment Program, as well as a training supervisor for the Department of Child Psychiatry at the Maine Medical Center / University of Vermont Medical School. He is a frequent presenter at regional and national conferences on understanding and serving emotionally, developmentally and behaviorally impaired children. He also has extensive experience and training in organizational psychology consultation and conflict resolution.
Dr. Stewart is recognized for his creative, energetic and hopeful approach to individual, couples and family therapy. His broad interests and extensive clinical background afford him opportunity to relate to a wide variety of interpersonal styles and world views.
Outside of his professional life he has maintained a (generally) very happy 30 year marriage, shared in raising two adult children and is an avid sailor, furniture builder, skier, runner and news junky.

Janet Stewart, RNC, Psychiatric Nurse

Janet is a Registered Nurse with 30 years of psychiatric experience working with a wide range of populations. She and Dr. Stewart have often worked jointly bringing distinct perspectives and a gender balance to their work. In addition to her professional life she has shared in raising two children and (generally) gracefully manages the always interesting, yet periodically challenging reality of partnership with Dr. Stewart.
Janet is a seasoned mental health provider who is recognized for her warmth, compassion and insight. Outside of her professional interest she is a sailor, skier, wonderful cook, hiker, exercise enthusiast, yoga student and gardener.
